IonQ has introduced the Superion product line, starting with the Superion 256, a 256-qubit platform based on trapped-ion architecture. Deliveries to customers are scheduled to begin in 2027, and the company is already accepting orders. During the first half of 2026, six tape-outs were completed.
The company is also developing the Superion 10K, which targets approximately 10,000 physical qubits. IonQ plans to demonstrate fault tolerance with this system in 2027 and aims for commercial availability by 2028.
On July 31, 2026, IonQ completed the acquisition of SkyWater Technology for approximately $1.8 billion. This acquisition provides the company with its own chip foundry in the US, allowing it to iterate on quantum chip designs independently and offer foundry services to other quantum companies through the new SkyWater Quantum Solutions.
The inclusion of SkyWater's semiconductor business, which serves the defense, aerospace, and automotive sectors, has led IonQ to raise its 2026 revenue guidance to between $450 million and $460 million, up from a previous projection of roughly $285 million.
Additionally, IonQ announced an $8.18 million quantum security agreement with Congruity360 to address encryption threats posed by advancing quantum computing power.
