Authorities in the United Arab Emirates and Sweden have dismantled an international money laundering network, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The operation involved a Swedish national, who was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice and apprehended in the UAE, while six other suspects were detained simultaneously in Sweden.

According to the UAE Ministry of Interior, the criminal group processed approximately SEK 70 million, equivalent to $7.1 million, over a ten-month period. The network utilized cryptocurrencies to transfer and conceal illicit funds derived from criminal activities. Investigators stated that tracking these digital transactions helped uncover links to organized crime and contract killings.

The investigation involved extensive monitoring and intelligence sharing between the two nations. Brigadier Abdulaziz Al Ahmad of the UAE Federal Criminal Police emphasized the country's commitment to disrupting criminal financing. Anders Wiberg, head of the international division at the Swedish Police Authority, highlighted that bilateral cooperation was essential to the case's success.

Sweden has recently intensified efforts to combat the use of digital assets in criminal operations. The Swedish Minister of Justice previously directed law enforcement to increase the seizure of illicit crypto assets. Reports indicate that criminal gangs in Sweden have increasingly used encrypted applications to coordinate violent activities, including contract killings.
