Intel has resumed development of its open-source font project, One Mono, after briefly archiving it on GitHub last week. The company initially launched the initiative in 2023 to improve code readability for software developers handling large volumes of text.
The font features fixed-width characters and distinct height differences between uppercase and lowercase letters. Intel also refined the design of similar-looking characters, such as 'e' and 'G', to ensure better visual clarity for users.
During the development process, Intel collaborated with individuals who have visual impairments to identify and address legibility issues. The project includes various styles like bold and italic, and remains available for public download and modification.
Despite a lack of significant progress since mid-2024, the decision to unarchive the repository suggests continued interest in the project. The company maintains the font despite ongoing efforts to reduce costs by cutting various open-source initiatives.
