Intel is developing a new processor for handheld gaming consoles under the Arc G3 line, designated as Panther Lake-H 080. According to data from the HWiNFO database, this chip will feature a unique architecture devoid of high-performance CPU cores.
Industry insider Jaykihn reports that the processor will utilize a 0+8+0+4 configuration. This setup includes eight small CPU cores and four Xe cores for the integrated graphics unit. This represents a significant shift from current Arc G3 models, which typically feature a 4+8+4 core arrangement.
The new chip is expected to be less powerful than existing solutions, particularly due to the reduction in graphics cores. While current processors offer 10 or 12 Xe cores, the new variant will be limited to four. This design choice aims to prioritize energy efficiency over raw performance.
Intel previously considered a 4+0+4+4 configuration for its entry-level processors, but the company may now favor the new 0+8+0+4 design. These devices are intended for users who primarily play older titles or less demanding modern games on portable hardware.
