Users upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) platform report issues with older DDR5 memory modules failing to boot. Investigations by PCGH suggest that the incompatibility stems from the specific DRAM chips used in certain 8GB and 16GB memory sticks.

The official Intel Core Ultra 200S datasheet specifies support for DDR5 memory with 16, 24, and 32 Gbit die densities. Memory modules utilizing 8 Gbit chips are not included in the official support list, regardless of the total capacity of the module.

The issue depends on the number and organization of DRAM chips on the module. For instance, a 16GB stick built with 16 Gbit chips is supported, while one using 16 individual 8 Gbit chips is not. Reported incompatible modules include specific batches of KLEVV FIT V, V-COLOR XSKY, Patriot Venom 5, Patriot Elite 5, and G.Skill Flare X5.

Intel notes that different batches of the same memory product may use varying DRAM chips, making it impossible to determine compatibility based solely on brand, model, or frequency. Users are advised to consult motherboard QVL lists and verify the specific DRAM configuration before upgrading to the LGA1851 platform.
