Intel is reportedly raising prices for its silicon designs, impacting major laptop manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Lenovo, Dell, and HP. The adjustments, which took effect on September 1, are driven by high demand for CPU manufacturing capacity due to AI workloads.

The upcoming Panther Lake processor generation, based on the Intel 18A node, faces a price increase between 15% and 20% depending on the specific SKU. For OEMs, this adjustment represents an additional cost of a few dozen USD per unit.

Older processor families are also affected by the new pricing strategy. Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake chips are expected to see price hikes ranging from 5% to 10% based on the SKU. These changes may eventually influence final consumer prices as manufacturers manage their margins.

The surge in demand for agentic AI workloads is currently absorbing significant CPU manufacturing capacity. Server configurations are shifting toward a 50:50 ratio of CPUs to GPUs, contributing to the supply-side pressure that prompted Intel to adjust its pricing structure.
