The AI assistant can create shopping carts based on natural language requests, such as budget-friendly lunches for children or party supplies for 20 people. It leverages Instacart's catalog, daily inventory signals, and a user's lifetime order history to identify available items and current sales at specific stores.

Clementine can generate personalized recipes and apply individual customer preferences to suggest relevant deals and automate reordering based on past behavior. CEO Chris Rogers noted that the tool utilizes knowledge gathered by the company over nearly 15 years of observing family shopping habits.

Instacart also expanded its white-label enterprise tool, Cart Assistant, which allows grocers to deploy branded AI shopping agents on their own websites using Instacart's technology and their own customer data.

Food Bazaar, Heritage Grocers Group, and Woodman's have already implemented Cart Assistant. The tool will soon be available at Aldi U.S., Harmons, The Save Mart Companies, and Stew Leonard's.

According to a May earnings call, Cart Assistant was available to approximately 25% of U.S. customers. Early users reported faster meal planning, recipe discovery, and basket assembly.
