Kylin Desktop V11, the primary operating system for China's public sector, is built on the openKylin foundation and utilizes the 6.6 LTS kernel. The system supports a wide range of architectures including x86_64, ARM64, and LoongArch64, with hardware compatibility spanning processors from Phytium, Loongson, Hygon, Zhaoxin, Sunway, Kunpeng, Intel, and AMD.
The OS architecture, referred to as 'Rock', employs ostree for atomic updates and an immutable root filesystem. System deployments are managed via GRUB, allowing users to roll back to previous versions if an update fails. The system uses overlay filesystems to manage /etc, /usr, and /var/lib, with a specific 'maintenance mode' that allows for temporary system modifications.
Application management is handled through two distinct environments: KARE for legacy deb-packages and Kaiming for new software formats. The KARE layer operates within an OCI container, ensuring that changes made via apt are isolated from the core system. This design prevents core system corruption while maintaining compatibility with previous software versions.
The kernel includes custom optimizations such as the EEVDF task scheduler, MPTCP for multi-path network connectivity, and sched_ext for eBPF-based scheduling. According to official documentation, the kernel release addresses 5163 CVEs. The system requires at least 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of disk space, with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD recommended.
