The IMF confirmed that Bitcoin assets added to El Salvador's reserves since June 2025 were funded by private donations rather than public funds. This clarification follows a $100 million acquisition of 1,090 BTC reported by the country in November 2025.

The lender also noted that operational control of the Chivo wallet has been transferred to a private operator, with the government maintaining a minority stake and custodial duties. The IMF expects no further accumulation beyond these documented donations.
