i-Space successfully completed static load tests for the tanks of its SQX-3 reusable liquid launch vehicle. The testing program focused on the first-stage methane tank and the second-stage common-bottom tank, both featuring a diameter of 4.2 meters.
Engineers utilized a step-by-step pressurization method until structural failure occurred. This approach allowed the company to collect critical data on stress, strain, pressure loads, and deformation, creating a comprehensive database for future design iterations and weight reduction efforts.
The test results showed high accuracy compared to theoretical predictions. The burst pressure deviation for the first-stage methane tank was less than 10%. For the second-stage common-bottom tank, the upper and lower chamber pressure deviations remained under 15% and 10% respectively.
The company confirmed that the structural failure modes matched theoretical analysis, and the burst patterns aligned with design expectations. These results validate the structural integrity and manufacturing stability of the tanks, confirming that the production line is ready for batch manufacturing.
