Hyster has delivered a hydrogen-powered reach stacker, model RSJ46-33XDH/62, to the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals in the Netherlands. The machine is designed for handling 45-foot containers and features a specialized spreader for this task. This deployment follows a previous project by the company in Valencia, Spain.

The vehicle utilizes a 60 kW fuel cell engine from Nuvera, which generates electricity for a 130 kWh lithium-ion battery. Hyster has implemented a unified software architecture across its equipment line to streamline diagnostics, maintenance, and operational consistency for heavy-duty tasks.

The initiative is part of a multi-year project focused on decarbonizing material handling, supported by the Province of South Holland and the EU-funded Just Transition Fund. The consortium includes partners such as Berkman Energie Services, STC Next, HarbourHUB, and the local Hyster dealer, Heffiq.

The Rotterdam site will serve as a testing ground for a modular hydrogen refueling station, allowing for operations independent of the supply grid. Additionally, a new training center has been established to educate logistics experts, students, and employees on hydrogen safety and the broader energy transition.
