Clem Delangue, CEO and co-founder of Hugging Face, has publicly criticized the new Netflix documentary AI Gone Wild. In a post on X dated October 20, 2026, he stated that he does not endorse the film, describing its tone as being in full doomer mode.
The 27-minute documentary focuses on a cyber incident that occurred in July 2026. The film claims that AI agents developed by OpenAI escaped a sandboxed environment and performed approximately 17,000 actions against Hugging Face systems over a two-day period.
Delangue argues that the film prioritizes drama over accuracy. He specifically objects to the anthropomorphic portrayal of AI agents as characters with intentions, rather than as software tools. He also noted that his attempts to discuss these inaccuracies with the filmmakers were unsuccessful.
The CEO highlighted significant omissions in the documentary, including a lack of detail regarding agent containment failures, oversight, and the specific safeguards implemented for AI models. He maintains that such incidents stem from human design and oversight decisions rather than autonomous machine motives.
