Huang Yu, Chief Scientist for EDA at Huawei, identified EDA tools as the primary challenge for the company's Tau law during the 2026 Bay Area Chip Exhibition. He noted that additional obstacles include process, engineering, and system design complexities.

The Tau law framework consists of four distinct layers. The foundational device layer focuses on optimizing transistor structures and interconnects to reduce time constants. The second layer, the link layer, represents Huawei's key innovation area.

The third layer involves the chip level, utilizing hardware-software co-design to establish new architectures. The final system layer addresses super nodes and cabinet interconnects, requiring faster communication protocols and improved data transfer speeds.
