The surge in memory component prices has become a significant challenge for the smartphone industry, with Huawei facing particularly high pressure. CEO Yu Chengdong stated that these additional costs have increased the production expense of a single smartphone by more than $200.
Huawei devices often feature larger memory capacities, which makes the company more vulnerable to these market fluctuations. While the manufacturer has previously absorbed these extra expenses to avoid raising retail prices, this strategy has led to a notable decline in overall business profitability.
Yu Chengdong emphasized that the company can no longer maintain this approach. To ensure long-term business sustainability, Huawei plans to increase the prices of its smartphones in the future, as the current model of absorbing costs is no longer viable for the company's survival.
