Huawei showcased its Kirin 9050 Pro chip for the first time in an offline setting at the Terminal Innovation Technology Communication Conference in Shanghai. The processor is featured in the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design tri-fold smartphone.
The Kirin 9050 Pro was officially introduced on September 7 alongside the launch of the Mate XT 2. This marks the company's return to publicly displaying its proprietary Kirin silicon after a six-year hiatus.
The chip integrates the Lingxi CPU, Maliang GPU, and Da Vinci architecture NPU. The Maliang GPU features double the compute units and cache compared to previous versions, while the NPU supports on-device deployment of 30B parameter mixture-of-experts models.
The Kirin 9050 Pro also powers the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design models. According to company data, the Mate 90 Pro Max delivers a 31% performance increase over its predecessor, while the Mate 90 Pro and standard models see gains of 20% and 27% respectively.
