During the Huawei Double 11 event, He Gang, CEO of Huawei Terminal BG, discussed the return of the Kirin chip series. The company faced significant supply chain challenges starting in 2020, which hindered access to advanced global semiconductor components.

The Kirin 9000S processor marked the return of Huawei's proprietary chips in the 2023 Mate 60 series. Despite its deployment, the processor model was not explicitly listed in the device settings for a long period.

Huawei recently introduced the Kirin 9030 series, which the company describes as a peak achievement in planar circuit design. Additionally, the Kirin 9050 series, launched this year, represents the first logic-folded tau chip globally.

In August 2025, following a HarmonyOS update to version 5.1.0.217 SP2, the Pura 80 series began displaying the Kirin processor model in system settings. The subsequent release of the Mate XTs in September 2025 confirmed the use of the Kirin 9020 chip.
