HSBC UK has updated the operational requirements for its Android mobile banking application. The bank now prohibits the app from running within Samsung OneUI Secure Folder and the native Android Private Space environment.
The financial institution describes this restriction as a security control measure. According to HSBC, running the application in isolated environments may prevent the bank from detecting specific security threats or delivering timely fraud alerts to customers.
Users are now required to run the HSBC UK app in the standard system environment to ensure full functionality. The bank maintains that this policy is necessary to mitigate potential security risks associated with isolated partitions.
The decision has drawn criticism from some users who noted that other banking applications remain compatible with Samsung Secure Folder. Additionally, customers expressed dissatisfaction regarding the lack of proactive communication from the bank before the restrictions were enforced.
