The open-source smart home platform Home Assistant has introduced a Live USB installation option for x86-64 architectures in its latest alpha version, 0.0.0-alpha.4. This update is designed to simplify the process of deploying Home Assistant OS on mini PCs.
Currently, Home Assistant OS supports x86-64 hardware, but the existing installation method requires users to create a bootable drive and write the system image to the target disk. The new Live USB feature allows the system to run directly from a USB drive without needing to install it onto the computer's internal storage.
The update also includes a full-screen interface for the Live USB mode and a new verification tool to check the integrity of system images. Additionally, the developers have improved the display of hard drive information and added clearer warning prompts before erasing storage devices.
These features are currently in the proof-of-concept stage. Users will need to wait for a future stable release to access these improvements.
