The Hyper Foundation currently controls approximately 48.9% of all staked HYPE tokens on the Hyperliquid blockchain. As of June 2026, the total amount of staked tokens reached 436 million, which accounts for 43.6% of the 1 billion total supply. The foundation operates five validators with individual shares of 12.73%, 12.70%, 12.02%, 7.95%, and 3.50%.

Staking on the network offers an annual percentage rate between 2.1% and 2.4%, with foundation validators charging a 3% commission. The governance model is stake-weighted, meaning voting power is directly tied to the number of tokens held. In December 2025, a proposal to burn 37.5 million HYPE tokens from the Assistance Fund was approved with 85% support.

The HYPE token launched on November 29, 2024, with 6% of the supply allocated to the foundation and 23.8% to core contributors. A vesting cliff for these contributors concluded in late 2025. Currently, there are no announced initiatives or governance proposals to cap the foundation's validator participation or redistribute the stake more broadly.

Beyond governance, HYPE is used to pay for transaction gas and provides tiered trading fee discounts on the Hyperliquid decentralized exchange. This utility incentivizes staking, though it also means users seeking fee discounts effectively subsidize the validators that hold a dominant position in the network's governance and security infrastructure.
