At the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, Gotion High-Tech unveiled advancements in its solid-state battery (SSB) technology. The company, which counts Volkswagen as its largest shareholder, is developing its Jinshi battery cells using a sulfide-based solid electrolyte. These cells have passed extreme safety tests, including puncture and high-temperature evaluations, without producing smoke or flames.

The manufacturer has set specific commercialization targets for the Jinshi cells, aiming for an energy density of 400 Wh/kg. This represents an increase from the previously announced 350 Wh/kg. Gotion is also targeting a price point of $150 per kWh, which the company describes as the one-yuan era benchmark. This price is more than double the current average cost of LFP cells in China.

Gotion is currently preparing for the commercial rollout of its SSB technology. In March 2026, the company finalized the design for a 2 GWh SSB production line. As of August 2026, Gotion recorded 4.61 GWh of battery installations, ranking as the fifth-largest battery producer in China. The firm operates 20 manufacturing bases globally and was founded in 2006.

The broader industry is intensifying its focus on solid-state batteries, with numerous Chinese manufacturers and automotive brands planning trial production and vehicle testing for 2027. BYD is among the competitors, with its upcoming Yangwang flagship sedan potentially becoming the first vehicle on the market to feature SSB technology.
