Gotion High Tech, backed by Volkswagen Group, presented its latest solid-state battery developments at the 2026 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei. The company is currently preparing its Jinshi battery cells for commercial use, including rigorous safety testing.
The manufacturer reported that the Jinshi cells successfully passed extreme safety tests, including puncture and high-temperature exposure. According to Gotion, the batteries did not emit smoke or ignite during these trials, demonstrating the stability of their sulfide-based solid electrolyte design.
Gotion has updated its performance targets, aiming for an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, an increase from the previously announced 350 Wh/kg. The company is also working on a production line with a capacity of 2 GWh, which was approved in March.
Regarding costs, the company aims to reach a price point of 1 CNY per Wh, which is equivalent to approximately $150 per kWh. While this target is currently more than double the average market price of LFP batteries in China, it represents a key milestone for the commercialization of solid-state technology.
