Google has launched an open beta for the Claude for Google Workspace add-on. This integration allows users to access Anthropic’s chatbot directly within the sidebar of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, providing an alternative to the native Gemini assistant.
In Google Docs, the tool assists with editing text, correcting spelling, and adjusting document styles while maintaining existing formatting. For Google Sheets, Claude can generate formulas and create new tables based on the document context or uploaded external files.
Users working in Google Slides can utilize the chatbot to build new slides using existing templates and themes, as well as flag specific elements for revision. A 'ask before edit' feature is included to allow users to preview all changes before they are applied.
The beta version is currently available to all paid Claude subscribers via the Google Workspace Marketplace. Additionally, new extensions enable users to edit Google Workspace files directly within the Claude interface by simply pasting a link to the document into the chat.
