Google is developing a new Smart assist feature for its Android translation application, as discovered in version 10.39.34.995726622.4-release. The tool aims to refine voice input by removing filler words and repetitive speech patterns before performing the translation.
According to the application code, users will likely be able to toggle between standard literal translation and the new Smart assist mode. The feature appears to be restricted to the conversation mode and will not be available in Listening or Text only modes.
The company has been actively integrating Gemini models into its translation services since August 2025. Recent updates have included real-time translation for over 70 languages, simultaneous interpretation via headphones, and a dedicated Listening mode that allows users to hear translations through the phone speaker.
