Google has expanded its News AI pilot program, which now includes over 400 global publications. New participants joining the initiative include CNN, Axios, the Financial Times, and Forbes.
CNN signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Google on October 15, 2026. The deal grants Google rights to use CNN content for generative AI features, including article summaries and audio briefings.
Financial terms of the partnership remain undisclosed. CNN stated it is currently exploring additional commercial AI agreements with other parties.
The pilot program launched in December 2025 with initial partners such as The Washington Post and Der Spiegel. Google provides participating publishers with payment and content attribution.
