Google has officially re-entered the laptop market with the new Googlebook series, featuring devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Prices for the new lineup start at $900. The laptops run on Aluminium OS, an Android-based platform that allows native execution of mobile applications without virtualization.
The hardware lineup includes configurations with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors, with future models expected to feature MediaTek chips. All devices come with 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM and an NPU delivering at least 45 TOPS. Users can expect up to 16 hours of battery life during web browsing.
Security features include the Google Titan hardware root of trust and local malware detection. For developers, the system offers an isolated Linux environment via the pKVM hypervisor. AI capabilities are deeply integrated through the Gemini assistant, the Magic Pointer tool, and the Rambler voice-to-text system.
Sales will begin on October 4 in the US, followed by Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5. Google has committed to providing software updates and security patches for ten years. Buyers will also receive a one-year subscription to Google AI Pro with 5 TB of cloud storage.
