Google has launched Universal Cart, an AI-powered shopping tool designed to centralize product management across various retailers. The feature is currently available to users in the United States via Google Search and the Gemini application.
The tool allows users to save items from different websites into a single cart. It automatically tracks price fluctuations, monitors inventory levels, and alerts users to promotional codes. Additionally, the system analyzes banking card rewards to suggest the most cost-effective payment methods.
Universal Cart includes compatibility checks for complex purchases, such as identifying mismatched hardware components for PC builds. While it integrates with Google Wallet for participating merchants, transactions for other retailers are redirected to the respective store websites.
Google plans to expand the service to YouTube and Gmail, though specific timelines for these integrations remain unannounced. The initiative is supported by the Universal Commerce Protocol, which aims to standardize data exchange between AI agents, retailers, and payment services.
