Google has launched a pilot program in India allowing users to purchase items from Flipkart directly within Gemini and AI Mode. The interface includes a Buy button that redirects users to a Flipkart-branded checkout flow without exiting the AI environment.

The current test is limited to a small group of users and a specific range of products, such as electronics, smartphones, and mobile accessories. While Flipkart listings show the new purchase option, competing platforms like Amazon currently lack this direct integration.

Google intends to expand this feature to a wider audience in October, aiming to capture demand during India's upcoming festive shopping season. The company previously introduced the Universal Commerce Protocol to facilitate AI-driven transactions.

The partnership builds on an existing financial relationship between the two companies. In 2024, Google invested $350 million in Flipkart, securing a minority stake in the Walmart-owned e-commerce firm.
