Google has launched a new feature called Call for Me, which enables the Gemini AI to place phone calls on behalf of users. The tool can contact businesses to check inventory, inquire about prices, schedule appointments, or modify existing bookings.
The system handles automated voice menus by navigating options and waiting for human representatives. Users can monitor the conversation in real time via screen transcriptions and take over the call at any moment if necessary.
To ensure privacy, the AI only shares pre-authorized personal information and explicitly informs the recipient that it is a Google AI assistant acting on the user's behalf. The calls are made using the user's own phone number and mobile plan.
The feature is currently in an experimental phase, limited to Pixel 11 series users in the United States. Participants must subscribe to Gemini, join the Google Phone app beta, and set their device language to English.
Google is testing this capability to refine the AI's performance across diverse business communication systems. There is no official timeline for a broader rollout to other devices, regions, or Android users.
