Google has launched Google AI Edge Foresight, a new Mac application designed for meeting transcription and note-taking. The tool functions entirely offline, leveraging the on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model, which features 740 million parameters. It is specifically optimized for Apple Silicon hardware.

The interface features a split-screen design, allowing users to take manual shorthand notes alongside AI-generated summaries. The application integrates a Gemma 4-powered assistant for transcript interaction and Q&A. Users can also build a personal knowledge base by uploading PDFs, Google Docs, Microsoft Office files, Markdown, and web bookmarks.

The release follows Google's previous experimental dictation tool. While the current version focuses on local processing, the company suggests a future consumer version could utilize cloud-based Gemini models for broader video calling integration. The market for AI note-takers remains active, with recent entries from Wispr and Calendly, and Superhuman's acquisition of Fathom.
