A power outage at a Google Cloud data center in London caused widespread disruptions to online services across the UK on Tuesday, October 20. The incident, which began at 06:08 GMT, affected the europe-west2 region, leading to increased error rates and intermittent network failures.

Financial institutions were among the most impacted. Revolut customers reported difficulties with ATM withdrawals, bank transfers, and card top-ups. Meanwhile, Lloyds and HSBC users experienced significant issues accessing mobile applications and online banking platforms.

The outage also impacted non-financial services, with Downdetector recording hundreds of complaints regarding the Royal Mail postal service and the real estate website Rightmove. Google later confirmed that service was restored for the majority of users, though a small number continued to face issues.

Representatives from Revolut stated they are working to restore full functionality and reassured customers that their funds and data remain secure. HSBC acknowledged the technical problems and confirmed that they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
