Google and Blackstone have officially launched Crux AI, a new infrastructure operator focused on AI systems. The company aims to provide computing power utilizing Google's Tensor Processing Units (TPU). Blackstone has already committed $5 billion to support the project's development and infrastructure expansion.
The company plans to deploy its first 500 MW of capacity by 2027, with long-term goals to scale the total volume to 2 GW. Crux AI intends to utilize various infrastructure models, including ready-to-use powered data centers, build-to-suit facilities, colocation blocks, and greenfield construction projects.
Benjamin Treynor Sloss, a former Google vice president of engineering, has been appointed to lead the new entity. The leadership team also includes Alan Duong, formerly of Meta, who joins as Chief Development Officer. Duong will oversee the construction of several gigawatts of data center capacity in the coming years.
