Glafira is a free, open-source desktop client for Apache Kafka, built with Tauri 2, Rust, and librdkafka. It supports macOS, Windows, and Linux, with the source code licensed under Apache 2.0. The application allows users to manage Kafka clusters, including topic creation, configuration changes, and consumer group monitoring, without requiring a JVM.

The tool features a Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway that enables LLMs like Claude or Cursor to analyze cluster metadata. To ensure security, the MCP layer is restricted to read-only operations. It cannot perform destructive actions like deleting topics or clearing data, as those tools are physically absent from the LLM's interface.

Security measures include a local-only access flag for LLMs, mandatory user approval for new MCP clients, and a detailed audit log. The application also implements safety features for human users, such as a read-only profile mode and mandatory confirmation steps for sensitive operations like topic deletion or offset resets.

The software is designed for developers and testers, offering features like regex-based message filtering, manual offset commits, and cluster health checks. The developer plans to expand the Glafira family of tools, with a version for PostgreSQL and Patroni clusters currently in development.
