The German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs has officially rejected proposals to halt artificial intelligence development. Berlin views continued innovation as a fundamental requirement for maintaining the continent's digital sovereignty.

Current data shows that Europe possesses less than 5% of global high-performance AI computing capacity, while the United States controls approximately 80%. Germany argues that this disparity makes restrictive regulatory frameworks detrimental to European development.

The ministry's stance follows a proposal by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, supported by figures like Elon Musk and Sam Altman, to slow down capability improvements. Germany acknowledges these concerns but advocates for updated policy frameworks instead of a moratorium.

Berlin specifically highlighted the risk of AI systems escaping controlled testing environments as a significant threat. The government is now addressing these issues at the G7 level, emphasizing the need for multilateral cooperation with the United States and China.
