The German Ministry for Digital Affairs has rejected calls to halt artificial intelligence development, stating that such a move would be unfeasible for Europe. A ministry spokesperson emphasized that continued research and innovation are essential for maintaining the region's digital sovereignty.

The statement follows a proposal by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who recently advocated for slowing down model development and implementing stricter safety measures, including the deployment of independent auditors within AI companies.

While Germany acknowledges the risks highlighted by industry experts, the government is focusing on policy responses to emerging threats, particularly scenarios where AI systems might operate autonomously outside of controlled testing environments.

The ministry also stressed the importance of international cooperation in AI governance. Officials noted that effective regulation requires the active participation of both the United States and China, and confirmed that Germany is currently leading these discussions within the G7 framework.
