Chinese manufacturer GAC debuted at the IAA Transportation in Hanover, showcasing its commercial vehicle division. The company presented the T9 electric truck and introduced the new Montx sub-brand for light commercial vehicles. GAC is leveraging partnerships with Pony.ai and Aulton to demonstrate Level 4 autonomous driving and battery-swapping technologies.
The T9 Robotruck features a drive-by-wire chassis and a sensor suite including nine LiDAR units, three radars, and 13 cameras. According to GAC, this hardware reduces costs by 70 percent compared to the previous generation, while autonomous transport costs per tonne-kilometre decrease by approximately 30 percent.
The T9 Battery Swap EV model is equipped with a 603-kWh battery, providing a range of up to 475 km. The system allows for a full battery swap in three to five minutes. These solutions target long-haul transport and fixed-route operations to minimize vehicle downtime.
The new Montx brand includes the P10 and V10 concept vehicles built on the ADAA architecture, designed for flexible powertrain implementation. Additionally, the Smilodon Pro pick-up is currently available in Central and South America and the Middle East, with plans to reach 30 countries by the end of 2026.
GAC Commercial Vehicle reported a 205 percent sales increase in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The company intends to utilize the GAC Group's existing distribution network, which covers 110 countries and regions, to support its international expansion strategy.
