Ford has introduced a new privacy promise, committing to transparency regarding how it handles customer vehicle data. The initiative includes a dedicated website designed to educate users on data collection practices and provide tools to manage their privacy settings.
The automaker is preparing to launch a new generation of connected vehicles based on its upcoming universal electric vehicle platform. The company aims to clarify its data usage policies, noting that while 14% of U.S. customers understand vehicle data collection, 91% view privacy as a key consideration.
Chief privacy officer Kristin Jones stated that the company does not sell driving data to brokers or use it for targeted advertising. Ford intends to use collected information for vehicle health monitoring and research and development for future technologies.
Customers retain the ability to opt out of data sharing, though the company warns that disabling connected services will limit access to features like real-time navigation and roadside assistance.
