Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a request for a court injunction against OpenAI. The motion seeks to block the company from advancing its frontier AI models without independent third-party oversight.

The legal action includes demands to restrict minors from accessing the technology, stop the collection of children's data, and cease claims that the products are human-like, safe, or accurate.

This filing follows a lawsuit initiated by Uthmeier in June, which alleged that ChatGPT is an unsafe product. The attorney general cited recent security disclosures and internal model development concerns as evidence.

OpenAI recently confirmed it paused the training of its most capable models to implement additional safeguards. The company also decided against releasing its GPT-6.1 Astra model after internal testing.

Researchers from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Microsoft recently published a paper calling for greater government oversight regarding the automation of AI research to prevent an intelligence explosion.
