The International Monetary Fund has approved an immediate disbursement of approximately $138 million to El Salvador. This funding is part of a broader 40-month Extended Fund Facility arrangement, which has a total value of $1.4 billion.
The IMF Executive Board finalized the second and third reviews of the program. Although the country failed to meet certain performance criteria, including those related to Bitcoin accumulation, the fund granted waivers based on the government's corrective measures and new commitments.
The authorities have transferred majority ownership and operational control of the government-backed Chivo Bitcoin wallet to a private operator. The state retains a minority stake and custodial responsibilities as part of its ongoing financial sector reforms.
The IMF stated that no further Bitcoin accumulation is planned beyond documented donations. Previous reports confirmed that the increase in the country's holdings, including the acquisition of 1,090 BTC in November 2025, did not utilize public funds.
