As of October 16, El Salvador’s national Bitcoin reserve reached 7,807 BTC. At a trading price of approximately $82,000 per coin, the total value of the holdings is estimated between $640 million and $650 million.
The accumulation continues despite a $1.4 billion loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which includes restrictions on public sector Bitcoin purchases. The country also rescinded the legal-tender status of Bitcoin to secure the funding.
The IMF attributes the ongoing growth of the reserve to private donations rather than government spending. However, the government maintains a policy of acquiring one BTC per day, a practice initiated in September 2021.
When the IMF program commenced in early 2025, the reserve held approximately 6,070 BTC. El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office provides transparency by publishing the wallet addresses containing the sovereign assets.
