Electronic Arts has announced a restructuring plan involving the layoff of approximately 400 employees. This figure represents about 3% of the company's total workforce. The decision follows an internal review of business operations conducted over several months.
Specific project changes include the cancellation of a new Mass Effect game, which resulted in the loss of 50 positions. Additionally, the company has paused Project Lotus within The Sims franchise to reallocate resources to Project Evergreen. The development team at Full Circle, responsible for skate., is also being reduced in size.
Despite these cuts, EA confirmed the continuation of several key titles, including Battlefield, Apex Legends, and the upcoming Iron Man game. Respawn and DICE are collaborating on a new shooter project, reportedly Star Wars: Battlefront 3. The company also noted that a Fight Night title is in development.
The restructuring follows a $55 billion buyout that took EA private, involving Saudi Arabia's PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. Reports indicate that this transaction left the company with approximately $20 billion in debt. EA plans to provide further updates on its project pipeline in the coming months.
