The retail chain Dixy, part of the Magnit group, has completed a pilot project testing a mobile robot for automated price tag verification. The initiative was developed in collaboration with Tevian, a Russian developer specializing in computer vision and video analytics.
The robot, originally designed for floor cleaning, was modified with a camera module to navigate store aisles. During operation, the device captures images of shelves, which are then processed by a computer vision system. This system uses fuzzy search technology to compare the identified price tags against the store's product database.
The pilot took place at a Dixy store in Saint Petersburg. The project successfully validated the entire workflow, from the robot's autonomous navigation to the generation of audit reports. The results confirmed that mobile platforms can effectively serve as data sources for automated retail space monitoring.
Dixy plans to continue testing the technology by expanding the coverage area and the number of processed price tags. Future phases will focus on integrating the gathered data with the company's internal analytics systems. Potential future applications include inventory monitoring, SKU recognition, and planogram compliance checks.
