Katie Price announced the end of her marriage after discovering a balance of approximately $3 in a cryptocurrency wallet that her husband, Lee Andrews, claimed contained $50 million in Tether. Price stated that a friend accessed the wallet on her phone while she was abroad, revealing a balance of about £2.22.
Andrews, who is currently detained in the United Arab Emirates due to unpaid debts, denied the claim via a voicenote. He asserted that the funds are located in a different wallet and offered to demonstrate his ability to move assets by sending £10,000 to a presenter. He also expressed an intention to undergo a lie detector test upon his release.
The situation highlights the distinction between viewing a blockchain address and proving ownership. While anyone can view the balance of a public address, this does not confirm who holds the private keys required to move the funds. Courts are currently addressing similar legal complexities, including a lawsuit involving Tether regarding frozen wallets worth $42.4 million.
Beyond the digital assets, Price reported a discrepancy regarding a ring gifted by Andrews. While he valued the item at £72,000, a jeweler appraised the lab-grown stones at approximately £5,000. Andrews maintains that he has settled his debts and expects to be released from detention shortly, though he has not made the wallet address public.
