Discovery Loop, an AI startup founded by former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean, is reportedly seeking a valuation of approximately $50 billion. The company, which launched on August 5, 2026, initially targeted a valuation of roughly $10 billion with a planned raise of around $1 billion in August.
The seed round was co-led by Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures. Other participants include Lightspeed, Kleiner Perkins, Doerr Capital, and Alphabet. Alphabet also serves as the company's cloud partner for its first year, acting as both an investor and a technology supplier.
The startup aims to automate experimental cycles, including hypothesis formation and testing, across fields like machine learning, drug discovery, and materials science. It plans to conduct thousands of experiments in parallel. Currently, the company has not disclosed product details, revenue, or client data.
The firm operates as a public benefit corporation. As of 2026, 19 US companies have achieved decacorn status, defined as a valuation exceeding $10 billion. This trend is largely driven by AI investments, putting the current year on track to potentially surpass the 2021 record of 22 such companies.
