Google DeepMind has released Genie 4, a new world model designed to generate virtual environments in real time. The latest iteration focuses on improvements to audio integration and simulation realism, addressing limitations found in previous versions.
The Genie series has evolved rapidly since the launch of Genie 1 in February 2024. Genie 2 followed in December 2024 with 3D support, while Genie 3, released in August 2025, featured 720p output at 24 frames per second with a one-minute memory limit.
Market reactions to the technology have been significant. Following the rollout of Genie 3 in January 2026, shares of Take-Two fell 8–10%, Roblox dropped 12–13%, and Unity declined 21–24%.
Google utilizes Genie 4 to bolster its premium AI subscription tier, offering paid early access to gather user feedback. The company views these world models as a critical component in the development of artificial general intelligence.
