The Deep Robotics Lynx M20S quadruped robot has joined a scientific expedition in the Ailao Mountains, marking the first use of embodied AI in this region. The robot, operated in collaboration with the Chinese Scientific Exploration Association, serves as a scout and observation tool in the dense forest.

Equipped with wide-angle cameras, the M20S provides real-time panoramic views to researchers, allowing them to navigate safely through difficult terrain. The robot features an IP67 rating and operates in temperatures ranging from -30 to 55 degrees Celsius, enabling it to traverse mud, fallen logs, and rocky areas.

The robot’s low noise level, under 55 decibels, helps minimize disturbance to wildlife, such as the sensitive Western black crested gibbon. By using the robot, the team successfully advanced their observation point by approximately 20 meters, capturing footage of the rare ghost plant, Monotropa uniflora.

Beyond observation, the Lynx M20S handles tasks including image recording, biological monitoring, and material transport. Its ability to operate at low ground levels allows researchers to document rare understory plants that are typically obscured by dense vegetation.
