Edinburgh-based Danu Robotics has secured $5 million in late-seed funding to scale its operations. The company develops the H.E.R.O. robot, which utilizes AI and a pincer claw mechanism to sort recyclable materials at waste facilities.

The startup currently holds $500 000 in signed contracts and has letters of interest from two major clients. Its sales pipeline includes over 200 potential customers within the $20 billion recycling sorting market across Europe and North America.

The H.E.R.O. system requires an initial investment of $160 000 and annual maintenance fees of $24 000. According to company estimates, the robot can generate $485 000 in additional annual revenue for a sorting facility.

Founder Amy Ma aims to enhance the hardware by making the units smaller and more portable. Future iterations are intended for deployment in airports, shopping centers, and hospitals to manage waste directly at the source.
