Dan Ives, a partner at Wedbush Securities, identified a significant shift in the software sector following recent earnings reports. He highlighted Oracle, Adobe, Palantir, and Snowflake as key companies driving this renewed interest from institutional investors.
Ives noted that Wall Street previously underestimated Oracle's backlog, assuming a 50% to 60% probability that it would not convert into actual revenue. The realization of this revenue now depends on Oracle's ability to expand data center capacity to satisfy cloud and AI demand.
Despite the positive momentum, Ives cautioned that a single strong quarter is insufficient for a full market re-rating. The company must demonstrate consistent performance over subsequent periods to overcome long-standing investor skepticism.
In the semiconductor space, Ives maintains a more bullish outlook, citing a 13-to-1 demand-to-supply ratio in Asian markets. He considers Nvidia a safer investment compared to AMD or Intel as these competitors work to bridge the performance gap.
Ives stopped short of issuing a definitive buy recommendation, describing the current market signal as lime green. He emphasized that the sector is still in a phase of proving its stability after a prolonged period of underperformance driven by AI-related concerns.
