Dairyland Power Cooperative has officially cancelled the Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC) project. The company has requested that the Wisconsin Public Service Commission withdraw all associated permits for the facility.
The proposed NTEC project was intended to be a 625 MW natural gas power plant located on the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. The cancellation follows years of public opposition from local residents, environmental groups, and tribal members.
The project faced legal and public challenges for over seven years. Clean Wisconsin, which first intervened in the regulatory process in 2019, noted that the opposition involved court proceedings, city council hearings, and agency reviews.
Critics of the project argued that the plant was unnecessary for grid reliability and posed risks to public health and the climate. The decision to halt the development marks the end of a decade-long campaign against the construction of the facility.
