A Reddit user known as @DallasGrave has introduced a hardware modification for the 12V-2x6 power connector used in graphics cards. The project involves soldering a custom PCB to the existing 12+4 pin interface, which adds two additional PCIe 8-pin power inputs to distribute the electrical load.

The modification enables a three-way power delivery system. According to the user, this setup significantly reduces both power consumption and operating temperatures across the wiring. During testing, the current was measured at approximately 3A.

The modified graphics card operated at a full load of 550W for a duration of 28 hours. The user reported that cable temperatures at the connector point remained below 40 degrees Celsius throughout the entire testing period.

The author of the modification notes that this process requires specific technical skills and knowledge. Furthermore, the modification does not eliminate the risk of overheating associated with the 12V-2x6 standard and may introduce new potential hardware hazards.
