The global cryptocurrency market has experienced its third consecutive quarter of decline. According to the CoinGecko Q2 2026 Crypto Industry Report, total market capitalization fell by 12.6% to $2,1 trillion. This figure represents the lowest level since September 2024 and is approximately 52% below the peak recorded in October 2025.

During the second quarter of 2026, the market lost $304,8 billion in value, dropping from $2,4 trillion at the end of the first quarter. Bitcoin saw a decline of 14.2%, while Ethereum experienced a sharper drop of 25.4%.

For the first time since the third quarter of 2023, the stablecoin sector also saw a contraction. Its total market capitalization decreased by 1.6% to $305,1 billion. Analysts note that this trend suggests capital is leaving the crypto ecosystem entirely, rather than being parked in dollar-pegged assets.

The current market downturn is attributed to a combination of Federal Reserve policy commentary, geopolitical tensions, and outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs. These outflows are particularly notable as they remove a key source of institutional capital that supported the market during the 2024-2025 rally.
